What Does A School Counselor Do?
-
My mission, as the school counselor at Blacklick Valley Elementary Center, is to ensure each student has the opportunity to maximize their social, personal, educational, and career development potential. It is my hope that each student who leaves here has started on their way to being a lifelong learner and a responsible, caring member of society. My work centers around creating and implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that is designed to meet the needs of all of the students who attend Blacklick Valley Elementary Center.
As the school counselor, I offer a variety of services within the school community.
Counseling Services
Individual Counseling
I provide individual counseling sessions to some students who may need help in overcoming social, personal, and academic problems. These sessions will work around student's class schedules so they do not miss important information in their classes and typically last anywhere from 15 to 40 minutes.
Group Counseling
Group counseling is provided for students who share a common concern or problem. These groups focus on support and healing and last about 30 minutes.
Classroom Guidance Lessons
Classroom guidance lessons focus on providing assistance, support, and knowledge to all students. These lessons take place during non-core classes and occur once a month.
