    (Pennsylvania Highlands Community College ACE program – CHM 106 Introductory Chemistry

     

     

    Prerequisite Courses: Pre-Chemistry and Algebra I or equivalent   Co-requisite Courses: Algebra 2 or College Algebra

    Credits: 1.25

    Course Description: This one-year course is designed to introduce basic concepts in chemistry. Students have the opportunity to obtain 4 college credits through the Pennsylvania Highlands Community College ACE program. This honors-level chemistry course is a prerequisite for the Advanced Chemistry course. Students are expected to have sound knowledge of algebra. The accompanying laboratory sessions reinforce the theories covered and emphasize general techniques used in conducting science experiments.

    Topics Covered: Scientific methods and measurements, atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, properties of gases, matter and energy, chemical bonding, acids and bases, nuclear chemistry, and organic chemistry.
